Deletion requests to data brokers, filed and followed up.
Privacy Vault is a small application its owner runs to exercise their own rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the Delete Act: it sends deletion requests to data brokers and keeps track of what each one answers.
What it does
- Sends each data broker a written deletion request, from a dedicated reply address for that broker.
- Reads the replies sent to those addresses and records whether each broker confirmed, refused, or asked for something more.
- Keeps the correspondence as evidence of when each request was made and answered.
Why it uses Gmail
Requests go out from, and replies come back to, a Gmail account the owner controls. The application asks Google for two permissions on that account: to send the requests, and to read the replies. It only looks at mail addressed to the per-broker reply addresses it created; everything else in the mailbox is left alone.
This is not a public service and has no sign-up. It is used by its owner, for their own requests. How it handles data is set out in the privacy policy.
